Chesapeake Voyagers, Inc.

Wellness & Recovery Center

Chesapeake Voyagers, Inc. is dedicated to promoting wellness and recovery by empowering individuals with behavioral health needs to reach their full potential. We strive to reduce isolation by providing a safe, comfortable and uplifting environment where individuals can meet others in their community, receive one- to- one peer support, obtain helpful information and skills needed to continue in their individual path to wellness and recovery. Chesapeake Voyagers currently serves all 5 Mid-shore Counties. Through our partnership with other organizations such as Recovery in Motion in Chestertown, Dri-Dock Wellness and Recovery center in Cambridge, and others, CVI offers support groups, activities, and peer support in Kent, Queen Anne's, Talbot, Dorchester, and Caroline counties. For a complete list of group times, please see our services page.

What We Do

Peer Support is unique in that it is something that not everyone can offer. You cannot be trained or go to school to learn how to do it. Peer Support comes from having lived experience. Only those who have been through something in life can fully understand what that experience feels like mentally, physically and spiritually. The best, most effective way for Peer Support to be offered is in a safe, non-hierarchical environment where Peer Support Specialists have a mutual approach to those who are in need of support. Unlike a clinical setting where you often must meet criteria, have a certain type of insurance or be placed on a waiting list, Peer-run organizations welcome everyone who walks in the door. We encourage peers to attend support groups and social events that are offered but attendance is never mandatory. Perhaps most importantly, it is not only peer staff that encourages peers to engage with others, but the other peer participants as well. Many peers refer to us as a second family or in some cases, their only family.

What is Peer Support?

Chesapeake Voyagers, Inc. (CVI) is a peer run non-profit organization founded in 2009. Although we are a private non-profit, we receive the majority of our funding through our local Core Service Agency (CSA) Mid-Shore Mental Health Systems (MSMHS). This funding comes from the State of Maryland, Behavioral Health Administration in an effort to promote wellness and recovery for adults in the five County Mid-Shore Region.
